Open Youth & Teen Division

Open Youth & Teen Division provides recreational dance training for students ages 7 – 18.  All classes in this division are advanced beginner level and separated by age.  The school syllabus for this division follows a training rubric that supports progressive levels of technical skill development.

Registration in this division requires enrollment in at least one (1) ballet class.

Open Youth & Teen Division class offerings include: Classical Ballet, Lester Horton Technique, Jazz, Hip-Hop, Tap, Acrobatics & Tumbling.

Ballet

This is class is designed to build upon fundamental knowledge and skills training in classical ballet vocabulary and technique through focused study on body alignment, movement placement, and articulation of the feet.

Horton

This class is designed to provide fundamental knowledge and movement study to prepare for formal training in the Lester Horton modern dance technique. The class will consist of studies to stretch and strengthen different areas of the body including core, legs, and back

Jazz

This class is designed to provide fundamental knowledge and skills training in jazz technique including isolations, leaps, single turns, and high kicks. The class focuses on the development of technique, style, and rhythm through high energy movement combinations.

HBCU Jazz

This class is designed to provide fundamental knowledge and skills training in jazz technique including isolations, leaps, multiple turns, and high kicks. The class focuses on the development of technique, style, and rhythm through high energy movement combinations that prepare students to audition for Historically Black College & University band auxiliary dance teams.

Tap

This class is designed to provide fundamental knowledge and skills training in the development of basic tap skills (shuffles, paradiddles, flaps, pickups, cramp-rolls, etc.) This class is designed to focus on developing rhythms and mind-body connection.

Hip-Hop

This class is designed to provide fundamental knowledge and skills training in urban street dance culture and rhythmic movement.

Acrobatics & Tumbling

This class is designed to provide fundamental knowledge and skills training in classical dance techniques combined with tumbling elements. This class focuses on the development of skills including forward & backwards roll, backbend, handstands, & cartwheel.

Young Men’s Ballet
