Pre - Professional Division

Pre-Professional Division provides dance career training for students ages 7 – 14. This division consist of three (3) levels that are graded on theory comprehension, technical skill, and artistry.  

 

The school syllabus for this division follows a training rubric that supports progressive levels of technical skill development. Advancement from level to level is based on annual student exams, class performance, and attendance.

 

Admission into the Pre-Professional Division is by audition only.

Pre-Professional Divisions requires ten (10) hours of training per week in cultural forms and codified techniques including: West African Dance, Ballet Folklorico, Classical Ballet, Lester Horton Technique, Jazz, Tap, Acrobatics & Tumbling, and Hip-Hop.

West African Dance

This class is designed to provide fundamental knowledge and skills training in dance techniques from different countries in Africa that will include footwork, singing, drumming, stage presence, costume coordination, dance origins and history.

Ballet Folklorico

This class is designed to provide fundamental knowledge and skills training in dance techniques from different regions in Mexico that will include footwork, Skirt Work, Stage Presence, Costume Coordination, Dance Origins and History.

Ballet I

This is class is designed to build upon fundamental knowledge and skills training in classical ballet vocabulary and technique through focused study on body alignment, movement placement, and articulation of the feet.

Ballet II

This is class is designed to provide fundamental knowledge and skills training in classical ballet vocabulary and technique through studies at barre, center floor, and across floor combinations designed to improve coordination, musicality, flexibility, strength, and endurance.

Pre-Pointe

This class is designed to provide fundamental knowledge and skill study to prepare for formal training En pointe. The class focuses on strengthening the ankles, feet, legs, and core. Students are required to have a minimum of 3 years ballet experience and must be enrolled in at least 2 ballet classes per week to enroll in this class.

Horton I

This class is designed to provide fundamental knowledge and movement study to prepare for formal training in the Lester Horton modern dance technique. The class will consist of studies to stretch and strengthen different areas of the body including core, legs, and back.

Horton II

This is class is designed to build upon fundamental knowledge and skills training in the Lester Horton modern dance technique through focused study on movement vocabulary including flat backs, primitive squat, lateral stretches, release swings, leg swings, deep lunges, and T positions. 

Jazz I

This class is designed to provide fundamental knowledge and skills training in jazz technique including isolations, leaps, single turns, and high kicks. The class focuses on the development of technique, style, and rhythm through high energy movement combinations.

Jazz II

This class is designed to build upon fundamental knowledge and skills training in jazz technique including isolations, leaps, double turns, and high kicks. This class focuses on the development of technique, style, and rhythm through high energy movement combinations.

Tap

This class is designed to provide fundamental knowledge and skills training in the development of basic tap skills (shuffles, paradiddles, flaps, pickups, cramp-rolls, etc.) This class is designed to focus on developing rhythms and mind-body connection.

Hip-Hop

The term hip-hop refers to a complex culture comprising four elements: DJ-ing, or “turntabling”; rapping, also known as “MC-ing” or “rhyming”; graffiti painting, also known as “graf” or “writing”; and “B-boying,” which encompasses hip-hop dance, style, and attitude, along with body language. This class is designed to provide fundamental knowledge and skills training in urban street dance culture and rhythmic movement.

Acrobatics & Tumbling I

This class is designed to provide fundamental knowledge and skills training in classical dance techniques combined with tumbling elements. This class focuses on the development of skills including forward & backwards roll, backbend, handstands, & cartwheel.

Acrobatics & Tumbling II

This class is designed to provide fundamental knowledge and skills training in classical dance techniques combined with tumbling elements. This class focuses on the development of skills including round offs, back walk over, front walker.
