DANCE IN EDUCATION

The incorporation of creative movement into core academic courses helps students to develop skills that are necessary for learning including: creativity, communication, critical thinking, and problem solving.  

 

Our Dance in Education programs uses dance as an interdisciplinary approach academic learning supported by the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) five basic strands including:

  1. Foundations: Perceptions

  2. Creative Expression: Artistic Process

  3. Creative Expression: Performance

  4. Historical and Cultural Relevance

  5. Critical Evaluation: Response

DANCE & SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL LEARNING (SEL)

School time program that uses dance to support students with the development of self awareness, self control, and interpersonal skills that are essential to school and social engagement. 

DANCE & LITERACY

School time program that uses movement to support  literacy development activities such as storytelling, drawing, singing, and acting to enhance the student's reading, writing, and comprehension skills.

PERFORMANCE LEARNING

School time program that develops a student's knowledge and execution of technical dance skills and a variety of dance genres and styles through performance. 

DANCE AFTER-SCHOOL

Out of school time campus program that provides a safe and supportive environment for creative movement and dance technique classes for students at underserved community schools.
