ABOUT DANCE AFTER SCHOOL
Dance After School is an Out of School Time (OST) learning program that combines dance training, creative writing, and social-emotional learning (SEL) to impact child development and promote art in education.
This mission of Dance After School is to provide underserved elementary students in Dallas with dance education and skill training that will increase their opportunity for acceptance into “selective admissions” middle and high school dance programs.
The objectives of Dance After School are to:
Cultivate student artist relationships through SEL practices that create a safe learning environment.
Promote cultural identity through the investigation of the African contribution to the art form of dance.
Provide high quality dance education and training and engages critical and creative thinking skills.
Dance After School aims to achieve the following student artist outcomes:
Enhanced social interaction that demonstrates self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision making.
Improved dance knowledge and skill ability that demonstrates a successful progression to the next level of dance education & training.
Improved literacy skills that demonstrate creative writing proficiency.
