ABOUT SUMMER DANCE CAMP
Summer Dance Camp is a five (5) week interdisciplinary learning program that combines dance training, literacy skill development, and social-emotional learning (SEL) to reduce the “summer learning loss” experienced by youth in historically underserved communities.
The mission of this program is to provide student artists with summer dance training and constructive learning experiences that will result in the student’s achievement of higher academic levels once they return to school in the fall.
To provide student artist with quality dance training in cultural and codified dance techniques.
To provide student artists with reading comprehension and literacy skill development through creative and academic writing activities.
To provide students with social-emotional learning (SEL) development through creative movement, movement therapy, and service learning.
Student artist will be able to demonstrate proficiency in fundamental knowledge and skill execution of cultural and codified dance techniques.
Student artist will be able to demonstrate higher levels of proficiency in reading comprehension and literacy skill development resulting in higher academic achievement within the first-grade reporting cycle of the fall semester.
Students will be able to demonstrate social emotional learning (SEL) skills that result in more self-awareness, self-management, and altruism.
